Boyton Oil Syndicate
By collating a large group order we hope to use our buying power to obtain a better price for everyone. This scheme is free for people in the IP12 3xx area (i.e. the Bawdsey Peninsula from the Deben river to Orford and Tangham forest). It is run on a voluntary, best endeavours basis by the Boyton Community Group with the objectives of :
- obtaining a better price for everyone through placing a bulk order and
- reducing the number of tankers driving on the local roads
We are moving to co-ordinate a bulk order three times a year, collating requests received by the following date for delivery within a week or so of placing the bulk order on or around these dates:
- 30 November
- 28 February
- 31 August
Further details will be confirmed and advertised in Village Voices magazine. We shall also email a reminder to anyone who has previously purchased or registered with our scheme a week or two beforehand.
PLACING AN ORDER
We are currently trialling a new ordering process in collaboration with Framtrade (part of the FramFarmers group) who have consistently given us the best price over the past year and more. You will get the same service and discount, avoiding any delays by dealing direct with them.
To place an order – email mail@framtrade.co.uk or call 01728 723723 with your details:
- full address including postcode, a phone contact number & email
- quantity of oil required, along with any special instructions
- remember to say you are part of ‘Boyton Community Group Syndicate‘
If you need oil outside these times we are unable to assist with a bulk order, so you should proceed and order direct or coordinate your own order with your neighbours if they are in need, and you could each save a little more by working together. You can see the price trends and previous price rises through the Boilerjuice or FuelTool websites, though we do not necessarily recommend either of these services.

HOW WE OBTAIN THE BEST PRICE
Framtrade are monitoring the markets on a daily basis and would be able to pick the best day to go to tender, with prices from 5 different companies. They also monitor the price on Boilerjuice.
Another benefit of being part of the syndicate is the flexibility on payment, with 28 days to pay after receiving the invoice from Framtrade after delivery of the oil*.
NB.
- All oil companies require a minimum order of 500 litres and
- a maximum order of 2,300 litres for domestic supply (any higher and you will have to pay the full 20% vat).
- If you are not sure of your tank size or just want to be topped up then you will only be charged for the quantity the tank will take not the amount ordered, but you can’t have more than you asked for.
- If the order is placed via FramTrade, you don’t need to pay up front as they will invoice you a few days after delivery.

RENEWABLE ENERGY
Ideally we would prefer not to be dependent upon oil and so are keen to help people understand the current options for renewable energy sources, such as solar hot water, air/ground source heat pumps, solar photovoltaics etc. If you would like to find out more about these and other options then please do contact us and we’d be happy to offer some advice and pointers.
NB. Please note Boyton Oil Syndicate is run on a voluntary, best endeavours basis by the Boyton Community Group with the objectives of :
– obtaining a better price for everyone through placing a bulk order and
– reducing the number of tankers driving on the local roads
– individuals are responsible for checking their own order, delivery date and payment details with the supplier once notified of the price

Domestic heating oil prices (and car fuel too) seem to be dropping at present so we should get a good price this month – prices can go up as well as down!

The May2012 order was for just 16 deliveries totalling 17,000 litres which Ali got the best price on the day of 52.95ppl (+vat) from Goff – the cheapest since July 2011. Thanks to all who took part and to Ali for doing the running around. Next bulk order is end of August for delivery early September. Andrew

FYI… our Aug/Sept order was for a total of 45,000 litres (our largest yet, thanks mostly to Judy from Alderton syndicate) we managed to get 57ppl +vat We are now collating orders for end November delivery in time for Xmas – see village voices for details.

The Alderton syndicate placed an order for 23,000 litres yesterday and got 61.23ppl +vat which is 5ppl cheaper than the price given over the weekend from the same supplier. Another supplier was quoting 65.7ppl +vat so this is a great saving. But why does it fluctuate so much? And why do we have to barter. We’d be happy to be loyal customers if the suppliers treated us as such.
Oh well. For those still needing oil the Boyton syndicate will be ordering again at the end of Feb – contact details above.

Our June bulk order went to Goff who offered us the best price of 54.45 pence a litre (excl. VAT). This was also our largest individual order to date with 32 households requesting a combined total of 31,750 litres.
The price if ordering individually on 1,000 litres was 59.35 (before VAT). So the financial saving though the bulk purchase scheme this time is just under 5 pence a litre (£49 on 1000 litres and £1,568 on the whole order!).
Thanks to Ali for organising that order and obtaining a good price for everyone who took part.

Our August bulk purchase price was 58.5ppl (+vat) from Goff for a total of 24,000 litres from 25 households.
This is set against a rising fuel price due to the ongoing problems in Syria with the average price for 1,000 litres around 60ppl.
Next order is end Nov just in time for xmas.

The November bulk oil order has been placed. Ali negotiated a price of 55.4 pence per litre (before VAT @5%), which is 3.05 p/l cheaper than you would buy 1000 litres today – ie a saving of £30.50 on 1000 litres.
Our order totalled (a minimum of) 22,400 litres – saving us £683.20 in our local pockets – and fewer big tankers on the road!
Southern Counties will be delivering by Friday 6 December. If you nee a more precise delivery date, please contact Southern Counties directly on 01787 371511
AND you will be receiving Premium Oil this time too! Which is normally 2p a litre more expensive than regular, so your oil should last a little longer too. (Southern Counties really wanted our order!)
If you do not already have an account with this supplier, then they will contact you directly.
With best wishes
Ali

This order totalled (a minimum of) 20,500 litres – saving us £401 in our local pockets – and fewer big tankers on the road! Thanks to Fram Trade for offering a great price.

We had a smallish amount for our August order, just 19,000 litres over 23 drops, so we joined in with the Alderton syndicate and managed to secure a price of 49.7ppl before vat (thanks to Judy for assisting us again).
Our next order will be end of November for delivery before xmas.
